Fashion, delicate fabrics and intricate patterns have always been a constant inspiration for me, and I’m constantly applying my fashion background into the interiors realm as I aim to bring Casa Botelho’s ‘couture interior’ concept to life. Since meeting Thomas and falling head-over-heels for his photographs, I’ve used him in all my shows and now have the opportunity to complement our furniture style with Thomas’ evocative stills. |
Thomas Zanon-Larcher is an Italian-born photographer and artist who started out as an engineer and now has had his photographs published in V&A publications, had solo exhibitions at major galleries in London, Tokyo, Antwerp, Warsaw and Milan, and has collaborated with some huge names including Alexander McQueen and Haider Ackerman. |
What is so special about Thomas Zanon-Larcher and why I believe his work is so evocative, is the way he captures a moment. Inspired by the tradition of Hollywood film noir, French Nouvelle Vague and classic texts, Thomas will usually set up role plays on a street or public place, using the natural light and with sometimes hundreds of people passing by. Described as a cycle of photographic stories, Thomas snaps away as time passes by, capturing the precise moments when the emotion, thought and gesture of his protagonists take place. Like mini films, Thomas’ work becomes a series of images of men and women living ordinary lives, testing the boundaries of fear, transgression, escape and pursuit in contemporary society. Now you see why a stopped and stared, right? |
A selection of Thomas Zanon-Larcher’s photographs are now on display at the Casa Botelho headquarters and also at our bespoke concept space at Augustus Brandt Showroom in Petworth, West Sussex. These particular photographs are from Thomas’ ongoing series titled ‘24 Seasons’. Similar to Casa Botelho’s philosophy of injecting personality and drama into a space, Thomas has an exceptional ability to convey emotion and theatre through a still image. These evocative stories beautifully complement the bold colours, rich textures and Art Deco style of our designs, and it’s for this reason that we are so excited to be collaborating with Thomas. |
